Aye, it is Revalida season yet again! This is the time of the year when every Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy student gets tested physically, mentally and emotionally. Revalida is just around the corner. Now the pressure is in and there is no turning back now. The oral examinations has been ( and still is) one of the scariest, challenging and humbling experiences a student has to go through. Thank God I did not have to go through all that anxiety. ( Luckily, I got exempted from it. :p ) Just to give you a low down on what revalida is... It is an examination usually given at the end of an academic term. Also known as viva voce, this Romanian word is derived from the French word revalider meaning revalidate. In short, 'to validate again.' In the case of rehabilitation students (PT/OT), there is an oral and written revalida. But what haunts us most is the oral revalida wherein you have to present a case and defend in front of a panel. The panel is composed of three highly respected medical professionals and professors who will try to extract you bit by bit until it reveals your core foundation. Just like the lottery, the panel is randomly assigned to each student. They also make it more exciting for the student. How? Like a fortune cookie, the student picks a piece of paper in a bowl on the spot to pick the case they have to defend. Awesome right?! *You can just stop our hearts right now.* T____T" PASSING THE ORALS. All it takes to pass is 2 P's (2 Passes and 1 Fail) or 3 P's (Like in American Idol, 3 golden tickets to Hollywood translates to 3 golden tickets to graduation). :) Even though I have not experienced this heart-stopping and soul searching event, I feel for those who are about to take the examination. I can just imagine what you're going through. That's why I interviewed some of my friends who have made it to the other side. I asked them how they were able to survive the long excrutiating days of waiting to be called and intense mind play. Summarizing all their advices, here are their tips to pass the oral revalida: | TRIVIA: In University of Santo Tomas, the oral revalida has tlhree categories depending on the grade a student accumulated during the monthly written revalida. The three categories are: SINGLES - No case presentation is involved. A student only has to discuss basic topics (anatomy/kinesiology/physiology) of his/her choice. To be categorized here, a student's grade in the written exams should be fairly high or average.; |
